Welcome to our brand-new home! If you’ve been following Little Lite Candle for a while, you might notice things look a little different around here. We’ve been hard at work migrating our website to give you a better, smoother, and cozier shopping experience. It’s a fresh slate for us, and we couldn't think of a better way to kick things off than by talking about the heart and soul of what we do: small batch candles.
You’ve probably seen the term "small batch" or "handcrafted" popping up everywhere lately: from coffee and chocolate to, of course, the candles you love to light at the end of a long day. But what does it actually mean? And more importantly, why should you care if your candle was made in a batch of twenty rather than twenty thousand?
Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on the world of artisanal candles. We'll explore why they’re better for your home, your health, and your vibe, and how we bring that commitment to quality into every single jar we pour right here in Peru, Indiana.
What Exactly Is a "Small Batch" Candle?
In the world of big-box retail, candles are often made on massive assembly lines. Machines pump out thousands of identical jars, often using the cheapest materials available to keep costs low. In that world, the "maker" is a series of gears and belts, and the focus is on quantity, not quality.
When we talk about small batch candles, we’re talking about a completely different philosophy. It means that every single step of the process: from prepping the jars to blending the oils and pouring the wax: is done by hand, usually in quantities of just a few dozen at a time.

At Little Lite Candle, "small batch" isn't just a marketing buzzword; it’s our daily reality. The magic? It's in the pour — watching the wax flow from the pitcher into each jar by hand. We’re watching the temperature, checking the wick alignment, and ensuring that every single candle meets our high standards before it ever gets a label. It’s a slower process, sure, but the result is something you just can’t get from a factory.

The Quality Difference: Why Small Batch Wins Every Time
You might be wondering, "A candle is just wax and a string, right? How much of a difference can it really make?"
The truth is, a lot can go wrong with a candle. Have you ever bought a candle that smelled amazing in the store but barely had any scent once you lit it? Or maybe you’ve dealt with "tunneling," where the wax burns straight down the middle and leaves a huge ring of wasted wax around the edges?
Those are usually the hallmarks of mass production. Here’s why choosing handcrafted candles changes the game:
1. Better Ingredients (No Paraffin Here!)
Most mass-produced candles rely on paraffin wax, which is a byproduct of petroleum. While it’s cheap and holds scent well, it can release soot and chemicals that aren’t exactly great for your indoor air quality.
We believe your home should be a sanctuary, which is why we use a premium soy and beeswax blend.

Soy wax is renewable, biodegradable, and burns much cleaner than paraffin. By adding a bit of beeswax, our soy and beeswax blend creates a clean, long-lasting burn. It’s the kind of quality you can see (and feel) the moment you open the lid. You can learn more about our materials on our Candle Sizes and Styles page.
2. Precise Temperature Control
Wax is finicky. If you pour it too hot, it might shrink or crack. If you pour it too cool, it won't bond properly with the fragrance oils, leading to that "missing scent" problem I mentioned earlier.
Because we work in small batches, we can monitor the temperature of the wax to the exact degree. This ensures the fragrance is perfectly bound to the wax, giving you a consistent "scent throw" from the first light to the very last burn.
3. Hand-Set Wicks for an Even Burn
Ever notice a candle flame that’s way too big and smoky, or so small it barely stays lit? That’s often due to the wrong wick size or a wick that isn't centered. In small-batch production, we set every wick by hand. We choose the specific wick size based on the fragrance and the jar diameter to ensure you get a clean, even melt pool every time. No more wasted wax!
A Scent Experience Like No Other
One of the best things about being an artisanal candle maker is the freedom to get creative with scents. Big companies have to play it safe with generic "Vanilla" or "Clean Linen" scents that appeal to the widest possible audience.
In our studio, we’re like mad scientists (but with better-smelling lab coats). We use premium fragrance oils and essential oils to create complex, nostalgic, and unique blends.

Take our "Aged Books" scent, for example. It’s not just a candle; it’s a trip to a vintage library, complete with notes of leather, parchment, and a hint of mystery. It’s designed to evoke a feeling, not just fill a room with "smell."
Whether it's the fruity sweetness of our Strawberry Guava or the cozy warmth of our Foundations Collection, each scent is carefully curated to bring ambiance to your space.
